Back in January of 2008 we kicked off the SMB Conference Call with
a simple interview. It was a new adventure and there was
no one doing a similar show in the space.
Well, we filled 100 phone lines and had to buy
more. Then we filled 300 phone lines and had to buy
more. Eventually, we settled on the gotowebinar tool
because it included 1,000 phone lines.
One of my mantras for success is consistency. Do what
you say you're going to do. Show up. Follow through. And
deliver what you promise. That's what we've tried to do
with the SMB Conference Call.
Times Change
Back then we were alone
"on the air." Today there are
a number of conference calls,
blog talks, podcasts, and
webinars pointed at the SMB
Space. Many people haven't
noticed, but vendors have
really grabbed on the to
webinar as the medium of
choice.
As a result, the field of general-interest SMB info is very crowded.
I believe our far-reaching topics and ability to cover just about any
topic was useful. But we've become just another voice in the noise.
And to be honest, I just need to do something different. The world is
totally recreated about once every 18 months in the I.T. business. You
can't keep doing the same thing forever.
I believe an information-based show should be well focused. Focusing
on "everything" in the SMB / MSP space just doesn't cut it any more. So
I am pleased to announce that we are closing down the SMB Conference
Call while it is still popular and relevant.
Looking Ahead
On January 6th, 2010, I'm going to give a special presentation on the
"2010 State of the Nation" for SMB and MSP consulting. I'll talk about
where we've been, where we are, and where I think we're going.
In that address I will also talk about the future of my involvement with
regard to information in this "space" and what I am hoping to do with
you in 2010.
And I will have a special surprise guest - and a major announcement.
We may or may not record that show. So please tune in live.
