Publishing in hardcopy and paperback will be with us for some time - however Authors should waste no time in making their moves into the digital publishing world, particularly given the popularity of Kindle around the globe.
One specific piece of advice we have, do not limit your E-Publishing to Amanzon's Kindle alone. Smashwords is a terrific free resource. We have had pretty much equal sells from our two separate publishing endeavors on Amazon (DTP) and Smashwords.
Smashwords converts an Author's source doc adhering to the Smashwords Style Guide standards into multiple ebook formats. Books that qualify for their Premium Catalog are sent through their distribution network of retailers including the Apple iBookstore, Barnes & Noble, Sony, Kobo, and the Diesel eBook Store.
Some other points to keep in mind when E-Publishing:
- 1) Publish several books at a time to optimize your marketing and potential book sells (more book choices for recipients of your marketing).
- 2) Utilize all your contacts to notify them once you become digitally published - via formal email letter, your social marketing channels, etc. Inform clients and even friends and family to get the word out.
- 3) You can publish books, whitepapers, and/or blogs for free on Amazon. Work some of your best material to hook your readers!
